The ASCII table assigns a number from 0 to 127 to every basic character, and each number has an 8-bit binary form. For example, A is 65 (01000001), a is 97 (01100001), and 0 is 48 (00110000).
Use this table to look up the decimal, hexadecimal and binary code of any ASCII character. To convert whole messages, use the text to binary converter or the binary to ASCII converter.

Control characters (0 to 31 and 127)
These are non-printing codes from the teletype era. A few are still used every day: TAB (9), LF line feed (10) and CR carriage return (13).

Patterns worth knowing
- Digits 0 to 9 are 48 to 57. The binary starts 0011, so the low four bits are the digit itself.
- Uppercase letters start at 65 (01000001) and lowercase at 97 (01100001). They differ by exactly 32, which is one bit.
- Space is 32 (00100000).
- Every ASCII code fits in 7 bits; the eighth bit is 0 in a standard byte.
ASCII table FAQ
How many characters are in ASCII?
128 characters, numbered 0 to 127.
What is extended ASCII?
Various 8-bit extensions add characters 128 to 255, but they differ between systems. UTF-8 is the modern standard and matches ASCII for the first 128 codes.
What is the binary code for the letter A?
01000001 (decimal 65).
How do I print the table?
Use your browser’s print function; the table is plain text and prints cleanly.
