A binary encoder converts text into binary by looking up each character code and writing it in base 2. Each character becomes one byte, so Hi encodes to 01001000 01101001.

How to use the binary encoder

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Choose the separator and 7-bit or 8-bit output.
  3. Copy the binary, or open the steps to see each character code.

Is encoding the same as encryption?

No. Binary encoding is a change of notation, not secrecy. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to protect sensitive information.

Decode the result with the binary decoder.

Encoding examples

The encoder works on every character, including spaces, digits and punctuation. For the sentence Hi there! the output is:

01001000 01101001 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 01110010 01100101 00100001

Tips for clean output

  • Use a space separator for readability, or none if you need a continuous stream for code.
  • Choose a new-line separator to paste one byte per row into a spreadsheet.
  • Switch to 7-bit only for classic ASCII exercises; accented letters and emoji need 8-bit UTF-8 output.
  • Use the binary decoder to confirm the result converts back to your original text.

Binary encoder FAQ

What is the difference between a binary encoder and a text to binary converter?

They do the same job. See the text to binary converter.

Can I encode numbers?

Yes, but a number typed here is treated as text. To convert a numeric value, use the decimal to binary converter.

How long is the output?

Eight bits per ASCII character, up to 32 bits for emoji.

Is binary encoding secure?

No, it is not encryption.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, conversion runs locally in your browser.
